In Memory of Colleen Jenish

“Always in our hearts”

LJYO Concertmaster Colleen Elizabeth Jenish passed away on Tuesday, October 9th, 2018, at the age of 25. Colleen played in LJYO for 6 years and loved the camaraderie of Saturday morning rehearsals. She developed many friends during this time. One young man recalled his first day in LJYO and feeling “nervous and scared in the back of the second violins, but Colleen was there and was so warm and friendly that I was put at ease almost immediately.” While in LJYO, Colleen performed twice as a Spotlight soloist, playing the challenging “Banjo and Fiddle” by Kroll and the duo “Navarra” by Sarasate with her sister, Alanna. An accomplished violinist in both fiddle and classical genres, an amazing step-dancer who won the Canadian championship, an inspiring and capable teacher, and a top student, Colleen is remembered today and always for her friendship, her smile, her beautiful spirit and her love of music. As an entertainer, she and her sister performed regularly at The Snug in Newcastle, and we are grateful to John and Leslie Walsh for their support. Colleen’s family would be pleased if others chose to honour the memory of Colleen through their support of the La Jeunesse Youth Orchestra. Donations can made at canadahelps.org, by mailing a cheque to LJYO at P.O. Box 134, Port Hope, On, L1A 3W3 or by seeing Marlene Davison at our “Home for the Holidays” concert on December 2nd.  A charitable donation tax receipt will be provided for all donations.
